In the old days pregnancy was really seen as the main event of a woman’s life. Women cared for the home and had and cared for children. Today, women do many other things, yet society still often sees pregnancy as the event that defines a woman’s life.
While pregnancy and motherhood are certainly wonderful, magical events and states of being, they certainly are not the only valuable things a woman can do. If you you have been hoping to become pregnant but have had no luck, you may be feeling like a failure, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
It is important to remember that no matter who you are, you are unique and wonderful unto yourself. No single event or accomplishment of your life should define you, even one as monumental as pregnancy.
You may have wondered about pursuing fertility treatments to become pregnant, and that might be a very good thing to do; however, be sure to weigh all the pros and cons before undergoing any treatment. Be sure you fully understand the risks to your own health and that of your potential offspring. If there is tremendous risk, you may be better off adopting, and the child you adopt will surely be better off!
Another thing to consider when deciding whether or not to pursue fertility treatments is cost. If you have health insurance that will cover most of the costs, this is a lesser consideration; however, even with this your out of pocket expenses can be tremendous. When you reflect upon this, you may very sensibly and logically come to the conclusion that the same money would be better spent to provide a home to a child who is already here!
Pregnancy is a wonderful thing; however, it is only the prelude to motherhood. A mother is defined by her love, not her reproductive ability. You can be a wonderful mother just as you are!
