The first sign of pregnancy, up to the stage of birth is considered to be a miracle. Falling pregnant is a result of either a planned or unplanned sexual intercourse encounter. Regardless of the reasons there are some interesting and amazing facts surrounding pregnancy.
When a woman is pregnant her uterus can enlarge and expand to 500 times in size from the original size. This expansion will have nothing to do with weight gain or any other external factors except for the pregnancy. Once the baby is born the uterus will gradually return to the original size and position.
During the pregnancy months the heart of the women enlarges. This is due to the heart having to beat and work harder for the increases of blood volumes in the body.
During pregnancy, a hormone is produced in the body known as Relaxin. This hormone encourages the ligaments to soften in preparation for the day of birth. This softening aids the birthing process where the baby is delivered through the pelvic area. Women should be careful and treat the body with care well after giving birth, while the ligaments return to normal.
The hormone Relaxin can additionally loosen ligaments situated in the pregnant women?s feet. This may cause the feet to increase in size. However, in most cases the feet will return to the normal size after the pregnancy.
Heightened Smell Sense
The high levels of HCG and Estrogen are known to increase the sense used for smell in the pregnancy months.
Scientific Reasons for Cravings
Many women when pregnant will crave strange and obscure food cravings or combinations of food types. Research has shown that pickles, salt or ice cravings are usually caused from certain types of nutrients that are lacking.
This is a strange but often common experience, whereby the partner, husband or dad of the baby goes through certain or all pregnancy symptoms with their partner. The experience has been named the Couvade syndrome. In recent studies when this syndrome is experienced the signs show up in the first stage or trimester and will continue right up to the delivery date.
Pregnancy can be a pleasurable time and experience for both partners. However, it is wise to remember that with all the added hormones and body changes many women can become extremely sensitive. Family members and partners of pregnant women must express love, care and support in those special, unforgettable months of a pregnancy.
